Day 1: Overview of the solar system.
Before you begin, make sure you have copies of these:
Planets graphic organizer (2 pages), and Solar System sheet (1 page)

Use the information you find in the videos and on the following pages to gather the information on your sheets.

1. Watch this video, and use it to fill in the names of the planets:

2. This video shows the relative size of the planets and the sun!

3. Visit http://www.kidsastronomy.com/solar_system.htm. Read the information on the main page (scroll down!), and then learn about each planet by clicking on it as it orbits the sun (at the top of the page). This is a great place to get some cool facts about the planets!

6. Tomorrow we will begin studying planets in depth. Each person will be responsible for TWO planets. Before your group leaves today, make sure everyone has chosen their planets, and that two people aren't doing the same ones!
